Ernie Ball Music Man make some amazing guitars that put playabilty and tone above all else. With thinner necks in every dimension than most these guitars are supper easy to play for everything from sweet chords to insane speed leads. This amazing playability is what has led so many artists joining their ranks like John Petrucci, St. Vincent and James Valentine…all who got new signature models this year.
John Petrucci JP16
It has become a yearly tradition to see updates to the JP line. For 2016 the JP16 actually gets a simpler design with a more focussed hardware set. For example they have ditched the famous Musicman tremolo with inbuilt Piezo system and swapped it out for a Floyd Rose tremolo system to support extra large dive bombs.
Other changes include a lightweight basswood body with the original scooped forearm contour that featured on a lot of earlier JP models. The neck is now made from select roasted maple with a beautiful smoky Ebony fingerboard.
St. Vincent Signature
This is a really interesting guitar! St Vincent is a very stylish player who has a unique look and needed a guitar to match. Enter Musicman guitars and their amazing team came up with this stunning guitar. Featuring and African Mahogany body and all Rosewood neck this guitar sound amazing using the three Mini Humbuckers.
Other hardware includes Sperzel locking tuners and the incredibly stable Musicman tremolo system that has been used in pretty much every style known to mankind.
As part of the pop group Maroon 5, James isn’t the first person you would have thought would get a signature guitar but what he has made is amazing. Using a double cut slab body the James Valentine signature modern mixes Musicman playability with the tone of something like a ‘T’ type guitar. With a humbucker sized single coil in the bridge and a humbucker in the neck you get all of the rock and pop tones you would ever need.
