Jimi Hendrix was a master of combining chords and melody in his rhythm work. It’s a style that can be heard in the playing of many other guitarists who have been influenced by Hendrix, including Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Frusciante.

In this video, Sean Daniel demonstrates Hendrix’s unique chord inflections and his melodic rhythm techniques. Using examples based on major and minor chords, he shows how to combine muting, hammer-ons and pull-offs, and chord-breaking techniques using the pentatonic scale.
